Kiwanian Sandy Wankel: Sask. Volunteer Medal Recipient!

Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield announced today the names of nine recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal [including Regina Club's own Sandy Wankel!]. The medal recognizes outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.
"It will be a great privilege to present the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal to these nine outstanding individuals," Solomon Schofield said. "Each honouree is extraordinarily generous and capable, and has made enormous contributions to our province."
The recipients will receive their medals this spring, at Government House in Regina. Recipients are selected by the Saskatchewan Honours Advisory Council from nominations submitted by the public. Including the nine new recipients, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been presented to 148 outstanding individuals since 1995. Saskatchewan has the highest rate of volunteerism in Canada.
Another Successful Daffodil Week
Daffodil Week is one of the primary fundraisers for Kiwanis Club of Regina. Kiwanians take to the malls to sell beautiful daffodils by the bunch.
Many thanks to all the volunteers! A special thanks to the members of the Wascana Club for their support - without your help it could not have been accomplished. We almost sold all of the flowers–a report on our success will be forthcoming. The remaining bundles were taken to three nursing homes. Highlights – new member Joanne Terry sold 32 bundles on a two hour shift – unheard of at the Northgate Mall. Trevor Quinn besides being captain of Golden Mile – sold flowers at four or five other venues and exceeded his previous sales substantially – good work Trev
MADD Money
We received a thank you letter from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) acknowledging our $1,000 donation to their organization, as well as an invitation to receive a presentation that will take place at Scott Collegiate on March 16, 2012 at 1:00 PM.
Big Money for Eliminate Project
At the last Board Meeting it was approved that the Regina Club would donate $1500.00 for the international The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus

In our ongoing effort to engage the community, we used the Christmas break to liven up our web site and enter the WeCan (Western Canadian) District Website Award. With the assistance of Kiwanian Scott Carson from Storm Applied Technologies, we took the silver!
